At around 20,000 feet, the Mooney M20M pulled alongside a Beechcraft icing tanker (not pictured) for the TKS® Ice Protection System FIKI flight testing program. The Mooney trailed behind the icing tanker at high altitude, hence the oxygen masks in the non-pressurized aircraft. Ice can be seen on the unprotected portions of the left wing (stall vane, landing light, tie down ring, upper portion of the icing probe, mast of the pitot, and leading edges of the flape hinges). Protected areas are clear of ice. The test used the cold air at high altitude to get some of the low temperature icing test points. Using an icing tanker aircraft allowed for testing on nice blue sky days.
