CAV Ice Protection to Present at SAE International Icing Conference 2015

22nd June 2015

CAV Ice Protection today announced that the company will present at the SAE 2015 International Conference on Icing of Aircraft, Engines and Structures from June 22-25, 2015 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Dennis Regnier, Lead Design Engineer, will be a speaker during the Icing Regulations, Ice Crystals, and Supercooled Large Drops (SLD) – New Part 23 and Engine Icing Regulations Technical Session on June 23, 2015. The session includes presentations on regulatory activity for certification and for military qualification for flight in icing conditions, especially those associated with ice crystal icing and supercooled large drops. Mr. Regnier will present “Development of ASTM Standard for Certification of Part 23 Ice Protection Systems – Industry View.”

Jerry Jordan, Vice President – Design Engineering, will be a speaker during the Icing Regulations, Ice Crystals, and Supercooled Large Drops (SLD) – Supercooled Large Drop Icing Tests Technical Session on June 23, 2015. The session includes presentations on the latest supercooled large drop (SLD) test programs. Mr. Jordan will present “Developing an Ice Protection System to Deal with the Recently Defined Supercooled Large Droplet (SLD) Environment”. He will explain how CAV Ice Protection engineers designed an SLD Ice Protection System envisioned to meet the standard of FAR Part 25 Section 25.1420 (Supercooled Large Drop Icing).

Alexander Baty, Lead Design Engineer, will be a speaker of the Aircraft Inflight Icing – IPS Design & Advanced Technologies Technical Session on June 25, 2015. Mr. Baty will present a study of “The Development of Fluid Based Ice Protection Systems for use in UAV Applications.” The presentation will provide an overview of the development process followed when adapting the TKS® Ice Protection System for use in an unmanned environment.  In addition to the complications arising from installing a fluid based system on an aircraft with the High Altitude Long Endurance capabilities of many UAVs, removal of the pilot necessitated a number of innovations to the TKS Ice Protection System.

About SAE 2015 International Conference on Icing of Aircraft, Engines and Structures
The conference provides participants the highest-quality technical program focusing on meteorology, aircraft icing systems, and ground de-icing operations. Governmental agencies will use the conference as their platform to discuss critical studies and new developments in icing and deicing standards. Critical issues of discussion at this year’s event include Ice Crystal Formation, Ground Icing Studies, Aircraft and Engine Inflight Icing, Environmental Icing Meteorology and Deicing.
