CAV Ice Protection met with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Monday, September 8, 2014, and is helping the FAA develop future policy on UAS icing certification by participating in technical exchanges, industry best-practice development and consensus standard bodies.

“We enjoyed hosting a small meeting with members of the FAA to discuss the future of UAS in civil airspace and share our experience with the design of ice protection systems for UAS”, said Jerry Jordan, Vice President and Chief Design Engineer.

Working alongside regulatory authorities including the FAA, other members of industry and organizations interested in general aviation, CAV Ice Protection also participates as a member of The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Committee F44 on General Aviation Aircraft to develop a set of industry consensus standards.

CAV Ice Protection has been providing ice protection design and systems for UAS aircraft in the defense and security sector since the 1990s. To this day, 75 UAS with the TKS Ice Protection System are flying missions around the world. Programs include: Predator B, IAI Heron, Elbit Hermes 900, and unannounced customers for other UAS aircraft.
