The hardware components are specifically chosen and customized for each system design. Typically a reservoir stores the fluid needed for the TKS® Ice Protection System. Fluid is provided to the panels by positive displacement, constant volume metering pumps. Cracking check valves contained as part of the pump assembly ensure fluid cannot flow back into the tank. The fluid passes through a micro filter prior to distribution to the porous panels. The filter assures contaminants are removed from the fluid and prevents panel blockage. A network of nylon tubing directs the fluid to the proportioning units and onto the panels.
For aircraft with windshield ice protection, an on-demand gear pump is provided to supply fluid. A normally closed solenoid valve downstream of the pump ensures that fluid does not flow to the spray nozzle unless the gear pump is activated.
