CAV Ice Protection provides a standard hardware design for windshield ice protection. Typically upon pilot activation of the windshield switch, the solenoid valve will open and the windshield pump will run for 4 seconds. After the completion of the 4-second cycle the pump will stop running and the solenoid valve will close. The timer interval is designed to provide an optimum burst of fluid for clearing the windshield of ice to establish the pilot’s forward vision as required. It is designed for intermittent operation.
The location and number of spray nozzles is typically determined by flight test.
